" There never was, nor can there be more than one universal religion;
for there can be but one truth concerning God. "
(H. P. Blavatsky)

You Ask Me About Religion?

"Religion . . . is the opium of the masses."
( Karl Marx )

Ullessis F. Abaya, The Wandering Theosophist First the definition of the word "religion." There are many who attempts to define this word yet I choose the best for me. Religion is simply "a form of worship," to a god, or gods, any god. Some people think that they are "gods" and started worshipping their own self, and it is their religion. I do not worship any gods and I don't have any god at all. I only believe the "causeless cause," the ultimate unknowable Universal Mind, and you may call it in your own terminology "god." For me and all the theosophists, we do not and can not call it 'god' in the definition of the common people.

Great thinkers of ancient times don't believe in any god shape or form, personal or impersonal. They have been looking for this god through the Universe and they came empty handed. Nowadays the quest continues, and the only chance to find this "god" is to study every bits and pieces of philosophy, science, and religion. Thus "theosophy" appears.

I believe that religion is a personal journey. Theosophy represents the journey that we all must make, to find out who we are and make the most of our lives. I have spent many years in the pursuit of a religion that will allows me to be myself, and Theosophy does just that.

The word Theosophy is defined in the dictionary as "the wisdom of the gods," and Theosophist being "the lovers of divine wisdom." Theosophy, to me, is the representation of the human spirit, the concept of being human. True Theosophist realize the humanity in oneself and encourage it.

To live on this plane we must learn to accept all aspects of our existence. The human race has evolved from millions of years ago up and is continuing to evolve through today. Certain questions have always been programmed into the minds of all; Who am I? Why am I Here? Where am I going? Each of these questions has plague humankind's exitence since the beginning. I believe that our life's journey is to find those answers. That is the purpose of our existence, to exist, to gain experience, to evolve according to what we gained from our experiences. The Universal Mind (you may call it god/God) is eternally evolving through all existence. The harmony of good and evil (as what human calls it) makes the Universal Mind aware of what is good and what is evil in the human point of view.

When I began to study various religions, various paths, I discovered that it is here that one man may be human, with all the parts of being human, able to be explored. Much of what society dictates as wrong or not good is simply a human traits - such as aspiration, satisfaction, desire, indignition, propensity, passion, and inactivity - these are all considered unacceptable by society, and why? They all signify us as humans. In order to accept oneself, one must be willing to accept all, including the aspects that make us who and what we are.

In my life, I am a person to whom things must be proven. Its existence must be shown before I will give up my current understanding. This path has shown me its existence. Through what I have observed, I see that this is the one place for me, the only one that allows me to truly be myself. I can learn, I can grow, and I can become what I wish. I can be me. How I follow my path is simply education, and by experience. I feel that part of my life's purpose is to aid the world in understanding that it is acceptable to be human. Although each one of us chooses a different way to gain acceptance, I believe that it is something we all want, for each one of us wants to live our lives as we wish.

I am not judgmental towards other religions or paths, and I expect the same consideration in return. We are all here for the same purpose - to discover who we are and what we, as humans, are supposed to do while we are on this planet.

I do not condone the harming of the innocent, for it is through them that we gain a better understanding of ourselves, and impossing ourselves on them is unacceptable to me, for each one of us must find our own path. However, if I can assist them in finding directions, by their inquiring natures and I am able to answer their questions, I am more than willing to do so. For it is with this greater understanding of Theosophy that humanity may find the path they seek and, through this understanding we may all learn to live individualy for the sake of all.

So I don't have a 'religion.' But I am a theosophist, and for me religions are expressions of humanity's effort to relate to one another, to the universe around us, and to the ultimate ground of being. Particular religions differ from one another because they are expression of that effort adapted to particular times, places, cultures, and needs.
